Pool Safety

6/18/2020 (Permalink)

Backyard pools are becoming more common and safety is especially important.

All backyard pools should be surrounded by a fence and have self-closing and self-latching gates. The fence should be at least 4 feet high and away from areas where children could climb over them.

All people using the pool area should know how to swim and/or wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets. But do not rely on them to keep inexperienced swimmers and children safe. Make sure that an adult is constantly watching children swimming or playing in or near the pool. Never leave children unattended or trust a child’s life to another child.

Have a phone nearby in case of an emergency. Learn CPR (including infant and children CPR) in case someone falls into the pool and stops breathing. You may be able to assist the person until paramedics arrive.

Backyard pools also can cause water damage by heavy rainfalls overfilling pools and flooding structures.

Above ground pools have on occasion had their sides buckle and cause the water to collapse the walls of the pools causing water damages to structures as well.

If water damage should occur at your home or business, contact SERVPRO of Rockingham and Augusta Counties at 540-433-6100. We will make it “Like it never even happened.”
