It is important to know how to keep everyone in your household safe from accidents. Batteries and household chemicals pose safety issues.

Batteries

  • Used/dead batteries can remain a fire hazard. Place a piece of tape over the battery terminals before disposing or recycling them.
  • Do not use wet or damaged batteries.
  • Do not overcharge lithium batteries or dispose of them in your household trash.

Household Chemicals

  • Follow the instructions on the label when you use household chemicals.
  • Do not mix products. Products can cause fires or deadly gases when mixed.
  • Always wear gloves or goggles when using chemicals to protect your eyes and skin.
  • Store household chemicals in their original containers.
  • Check instructions on the label for proper storage:
    • Flammable chemicals should not be stored in the sun or near a heat source
    • Chemicals should be out of children’s and pet's reach.
