Different Types of Winter Storm Damages
11/5/2020 (Permalink)
Typical winter storms create a buildup of snow and ice. Depending on the temperatures, snow and ice can be on the ground or roofs for days or weeks.
When the temperatures warm up, the snow and ice begin to thaw which could cause a flooding issue. The water can then enter your basement or home causing water damage and if not found for a while, mold could start to grow.
Winter storms also can cause water pipes to freeze. As water freezes in a pipe, it expands which can cause the pipe to burst. It is important to have the name and number of a plumber so that if you don’t have running water after a winter storm, they can be called to check for a frozen or burst pipe. A burst pipe can cause the whole house to be without water as well as causing damage to the home itself.
Roofs can also be damaged during winter storms. Most people don’t remove the snow or ice from their roofs which can cause the roof to collapse or create ice dams. Roof damage can also come from high winds during a winter storm. In addition to damage to the roof itself, other parts of the home could experience water damage due to roof leaks.
