Flooding from Winter Storms

Most people think of snowstorms or blizzards during the winter. Not many people think about winter flooding. Flooding can result from rain, snow, overflow of dams and rivers. Flooding can occur slowly or quickly; flash flooding can occur with no warning. You can experience power outages, washed out roads or blocked roads from debris or high water. Buildings including homes can be damaged.
If you are in a flooding situation:
- Do not walk, swim or drive through flood water -just six inches of moving water can knock you down and one foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away.
- Depending on what type of flooding is occurring and your location: evacuate if instructed to do so, move to higher ground or an upper floor, stay where you are.
