Water in Basements
11/16/2020 (Permalink)
The most common type of water damage in a basement is from a broken pipe. A sewer line, water supply line, washing machine discharge line and even outside faucets cause water damage to a basement.
Also, underground water can cause the surrounding ground to shift. Water can seep behind walls. Water damage in a basement can cause major structural damage. Cracks in walls, ceilings and floors are evidence of damages that could be caused by underground water if no other source has been found.
Floods and water emergencies can happen anytime. You should know where your main water cutoff is located. Turning off the water will prevent further damage, but only if you can safely do so. A submersible pump in the basement can also assist in keeping the water from causing further damage.
