Washing Machines and Water Damage

Water damage from malfunctioning or leaking washing machines often get overlooked until it actually causes extensive damage.
Washing machine hoses can cause leaks or extensive water damage if they burst. Most washing machine hoses are made of reinforced polymer or rubber, which lose resiliency as they age. This makes them more likely to crack, leak or burst.
You should inspect both your hot and cold hoses regularly. Look for cracks, kinks and/or bulges on the hoses as well as any moisture or rust. All of these are signs that the hoses could cause water damage. If you find any damaged hoses when inspecting them, be sure to replace them right away and make sure that they are properly installed without any bends or kinks.
Also make sure that the washing machine is level. By doing this, you prevent added stress on the connections and hoses by not having your machine unbalanced. An unbalance machine can “move or walk” when in use.
